Concordia Pulls Away From Women's Basketball
(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team started strong, but then went cold, as they fell to the visiting Concordia Cardinals Saturday evening at Gannon Gymnasium.
After a Concordia three pointer, Riley Merryfield and Amy Jackson both made layups to give the Cougars an early 4-3 lead. Jackson would hit a pair of free throws just minutes later, followed immediatly by another made three pointer. Cleary wasn't done, as Taedom Stein made a layup, and Amy Jackson hit another three to give the Cougars a 15-5 lead, their largest of the game. The Cardinals would wake up, and went on a 24-2 run into the second quarter to take control of the game. CUAA would hold a 46-29 lead at the break.
The second half remained in control of the Cardinals, as Cleary was never able to go on a run to cut into the deficit, as Concordia went on to win by an 83-53 margin.
Taedom Stein finished with a team high 20 points, while Amy Jackson added 12 points. Mileisha Rodriguez added 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Cleary falls to 4-20 overall, 4-14 in the WHAC. The Cougars will play their final road game of the season on Wednesday, February 14, when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on the Cornerstone Golden Eagles. The game is set to begin at 5:30 PM.
