Cleary suspends athletics until January 2021
(November 20, 2020 - Howell, Mich.) -- In accordance with the most recent Michigan Department of Health and Human Services order, as well as increased cases recorded throughout the state, the Cleary University Athletic Department has decided to suspend all athletic events until January 2021.
The men's and women's bowling teams at Cleary had already shifted their entire schedule into the 2021 calendar with men's ice hockey and wrestling still keeping a handful of events before the close of 2020 that will now be postponed or cancelled altogether.
"As a university, our top priority is the safety of our campus community," said Director of Athletics Heather Bateman. "We value the health of our athletes as well as our general student population, faculty and staff and with the holidays on our horizon, it is imperative we do all we can to stop the spread of COVID-19."
Classes were moved to entirely virtual beginning on November 12 for the duration of the semester, which concludes December 14.
"We fully expect to have each and every one of our teams participating in their respective sports in the spring," Bateman said. "We are deciding to hit pause rather than stop. When we are able to return in 2021, we will do so with the plan to finish the rest of this academic year completely."
