(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar ACHA hockey team played a two-game series vs. the nationally ranked Indiana Tech Warriors this weekend.
In Game 1 at Indiana Tech:
It was a rough night for the Cougars, as Indiana Tech scored five first period goals on Scott Kennedy, and then five second period goals on Liam Kocur to take a 10-0 lead into the final period. Wes Smith would score Cleary's only goal of the game in the third period, unassisted, as Cleary went on to lose by a 14-1 final score.
Scott Kennedy suffered the loss while making 18 saves on 14 shots, while Liam Kocur made 30 saves on 40 shots faced.
In Game 2 vs. Indiana Tech:
Indiana Tech scored the game's first three goals over the first period and a half, but Cleary responded with a pair of power play goals in the second period. For Cleary's first goal, Jonny Gardiner got the puck in the net, with assists from Wes Smith and Zack Wiener. On Cleary's second goal, Bennett Sheppard scored, with assists from Zack Wiener and Ben Gledhow, to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Warriors flexed their muscles in the final period, scoring four unanswered goals to take the game 7-2.
Liam Kocur would take the loss, making 37 saves on 44 shots.
Cleary drops to 2-6, 1-3 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, with a pair of games vs. the Concordia Cardinals. Cleary hosts CUAA on Friday at 140 Ice Den, with the game starting at 7:30 PM.
