(Canton, MI)-- After winning game one of their weekend series in a penalty shootout over the Concordia Cardinals, the two teams met again for game two Saturday afternoon at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Canton, Michigan.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the first period and a half of game action. Cleary would get on the board with eight minutes left in the second period, when Wes Smith scored a shorthanded goal, with assists from Cam Thomas and Erik Wafer, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Two more goals by Concordia expanded the lead back to 6-1 still in the second period. Brendyn Galloner scored the third period's only goal, with assists from Wes Smith and Cam Thomas, but the margin was too much to overcome for the Cougars.
Scott Kennedy would take the loss in goal, making 27 saves on 30 shots faced in two periods of action.
Cleary drops to 3-7 overall, 2-4 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action next Friday and Saturday when they take on the UM-Dearborn Wolverines in a two-game weekend series. Cleary will host the Wolverines on Saturday at 140 Ice Den, with the puck dropping at 5:30 PM.
