(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar ACHA hockey team welcomed the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals to the Ice Den for game one of their weekend series Friday night.
SVSU would score the first period's only goal, and added another pair of goals in the second to take a 3-0 lead into the final twenty minutes. Two more Cardinal goals would extend the visitor's lead, but Wes Smith would get Cleary on the board, with an assist from Zack Wiener, to cut into the deficit. Just a couple minutes later, Cleary would take advantage of a 5-on-3 power play, when Bennett Sheppard scored, with assists from Wes Smith and Zack Wiener. That would be the game's final goal, and the game would eventually end 5-2 in favor of Saginaw Valley State.
Tyler Krasofsky would take the loss before leaving due to an injury, making 12 saves on 13 shots. Liam Kocur would come in and make 20 saves on 24 shots faced.
Cleary falls to 3-10 overall. The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday, November 4th, when they travel north on I-75 to take on SVSU in game two of the series. The puck is scheduled to drop at 9:30 PM.
