Hockey Soars Past Eagles in Shutout Victory
(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar hockey team picked up their first shutout victory of the season, as they scored eight goals in the first two periods to control the game against the Eastern Michigan Eagles.
Levi Herauf scored in just 28 seconds, with assists from Erik Wafer and Zach Eakes, to give Cleary the lead. Six minutes later, Eakes would score himself, with assists from Erik Wafer and Justin Reddy. Wes Smith got into the action just past the halfway point of the period, with assists from Justin Reddy and Devon Campbell, and Bennett Sheppard scored a power play goal with an assist from Wes Smith to make it 4-0 after the first period.
The second period was a mirror image of the first, with four more Cougar goals coming. Bennett Sheppard scored his second of the game, with an assist from Zach Eakes. Ben Gledhow would score, with assists from Devon Campbell and Wes Smith, to make the score 6-0. Jonny Gardiner got in on the action with a power play goal, with assists from Bennett Sheppard and Zach Eakes, and Justin Reddy scored, with assists from Devon Campbell and Wes Smith, to make it 8-0 through two periods. That score would hold until the final minute of the game, when Brendyn Galloner scored, with an assist from Peter Houston, to make the score 9-0 Cougars. The assist was Houston's first point as a member of the hockey program.
Tyler Krasofsky was perfect in between the pipes, as he stopped every shot faced, en route to his second career shutout, and only the fourth in program history. He made 20 saves on 20 shots faced to pick up his first win of the season.
Cleary had goals by eight different players, and eleven different players earned a point in the win. Zach Eakes and Wes Smith each had one goal and three assists to lead the Cougar attack.
Cleary improves to 8-13, and will be back in action for game two of the series vs. EMU on Saturday, December 9, when the two teams meet again at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The game is set to begin at 2:30 PM ET.
