(Ann Arbor, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar ACHA hockey team picked up right where they left off Friday night, as they outscored the Eastern Michigan Eagles 9-2 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube Saturday afternoon.
After EMU scored the opening goal, Cleary would rattle off the next five goals into the second period to take command of the game. Devon Campbell got things going, with assists from Ben Gledhow and Wes Smith, to tie the game. Not even two minutes later, Wes Smith scored his first goal of the game, with assists from Justin Reddy and Devon Campbell, to give CU the lead. In the second period, Zach Eakes scored just 45 seconds into play, with an assist from Jonny Gardiner. A Ben Bledhow power play goal, with assists from Wes Smith and Devon Campbell, made the score 4-1, and Campbell scored his second goal, with assists from Wes Smith and Ben Gledhow, to make it 5-1.
EMU would score their second and final goal with 7 minutes remaining in the second period, while Cleary added four more goals to finish the game. Bennett Sheppard got into the action, with an assist from Zach Eakes, to make the score 6-2. Eakes would scorehis second goal of the game, with assists from Jonny Gardiner and Billy Simms, to make it 7-2. Wes Smith added his second goal, with assists from Ben Bledhow and Jonny Gardiner, and Bennett Sheppard scored the game's final goal on the power play, with an assist from Billy Simms.
Liam Kocur picked up the win, making 22 saves on 24 shots faced.
Cleary has now won three games in a row and improves to 9-13 overall. The Cougars will look to keep their winning streak alive next Friday when they host the Davenport Panthers in a non-conference weekend series. Game one will begin at 8:00 PM at 140 Ice Den on Friday, December 15.
