(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar hockey team welcomed the Rochester Warriors to 140 Ice Den, and controlled the game from start to finish, as they went on to win Saturday evening.
After a slow start for both teams, Billy Simms got things going, when he scored the game's opening goal, with assists from Wes Smith and Brendyn Galloner. Three minutes later, Jonny Gardiner doubled the Cougar lead, with assists from Derry MacBeth and Zach Eakes, to make the score 2-0. That score held through the rest of the period.
After a power play goal for the Warriors in the opening minute of the second period, Cleary would score three unanswered goals to finish the period to take a 5-1 lead into the final twenty minutes. Bennett Sheppard scored his first goal of the night to retake the two goal advantage, with assists from Zack Wiener and Peter Houston. Brendyn Galloner would score ten minutes later, with assists from Billy Simms and Reno Parker. Bennett Sheppard scored his second goal, with assists from Zach Eakes and Reno Parker.
The third period was another three goal period for the Cougars. Bennett Sheppard would score his third goal to get his first career hat-trick, with an assist from Jonny Gardiner. Less than a minute later, Jonny Gardiner scored, with an assist from Zach Eakes, and Levi Herauf got the game's final goal, with assists from Devon Campbell and Zack Wiener.
Tyler Krasofsky picked up his 4th win of the season, while making 24 saves in the win. He is now the program's winningest goalie after the win, with 12 career wins.
Cleary improves to 15-19 overall, 9-13 in the WHAC. The Cougars will play their final regular season series next Friday and Saturday, when they take on the Aquinas Saints. Cleary will host the Saints at 140 Ice Den on Friday at 7:30 PM.
