(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar ACHA hockey team was in action Friday and Saturday, as they took on the #24 ranked Davenport Panthers in a non-conferense series.
In Game 1 vs. Davenport: Cleary scored three first period goals to take control of the game. Steven Miller got things going with a goal, and an assist from Dylan Tammadge. Six minutes later, Ben Kozar struck on the breakaway, with an assist from Wes Smith, and JC Garbacik added the third goal in the final minute, with assists from Wes Smith and Collin Kerchoff. Davenport would get on the board in the second period, but Wes Smith scored a short-handed goal, with an assist from Brett Woolcott, to regain the three goal advantage.
Davenport would score a pair of goals late in the third period, but the Cougars would hold on for the 4-3 victory.
Vincent Parent earned his seventh victory in goal, making 36 saves on 39 shots faced.
In Game 2 at Davenport: Steven Miller scored a breakaway goal to give Cleary the 1-0 lead in the first period, but the Panthers would score the next seven goals through the first, second, and third periods to take a 7-1 lead. Dylan Tammadge would score with just under four minutes to play, with an assist from Bennett Sheppard, but it would not be enough as the Cougars fell by a 7-2 scoreline.
Nick Meyering suffered the loss in goal, making 32 saves on 39 shots faced.
Cleary ends the fall semester with a 15-9 record. The Cougars will enjoy their holiday break before returning to action on Friday, January 10, when they travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors in a WHAC series. The puck is scheduled to drop in game one at 7:30 PM.
