Cleary (Mich.)
(Howell, MI)-- It was a beautiful, sunny day for baseball at Lake Trust Stadium, but the visiting Indiana Tech Warriors spoiled the day, as the Warriors were able to pick up a pair of WHAC victories over the Cougars.
In Game 1: Indiana Tech struck twice in the top of the 2nd, and twice again in the top of the 4th to take a 4-0 lead. The Indiana Tech pitching stymied the Cleary offense, as the Cougars were only able to get four hits in the game, while striking out 12 times as the Warriors took game one 4-0.
Garrett Larner took the loss, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 7 through 6 innings. Kendall Flaugher, Jeremy VanOosterum, Anthony Lacle, and Kyle Miazgowicz each one hit for Cleary.
In Game 2: The Warriors started the game on fire, scoring six runs in the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead. Cleary would get one back in the 3rd, after Nick Koan doubled, and advanced to third on a balk, he would score on an Aaron Dyke RBI groundout to make the score 6-1. The Warriors would add two more runs in the 5th inning to make the score 8-1. In the 6th, Kyle Miazgowicz singled, followed by a Kendall Flaugher walk. Jeremy VanOosterum would double to left center to score Miazgowicz and advance Flaugher to third base. The next batter, Billy Flohr, reached on a fielder's choice, but scored Flaugher from third to cut the lead to 8-3. In the 7th, Nick Koan led off with a single, followed by an Aaron Dyke single that put runners on the corners. Kyle Miazgowicz would bring Koan home on a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-4. The next batter, Kendall Flaugher, doubled to right center to score Dyke and make the score 8-5. That would be the last Cougar run of the game, and the Warriors added four insurance runs in the top of the 9th to secure the 12-5 victory.
Jeremy Fuchs suffered the defeat on the mound, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits. Nick Koan went 2/3 with 2 R, while Aaron Dyke, Kyle Miazgowicz, Kendall Flaugher, Jeremy VanOosterum, Billy Flohr, and Ryan Kadoguchi each had one hit.
Cleary drops to 17-15, 5-7 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday, April 12, when they host the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats in a non-conference double-header. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
