(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars took on the visiting Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats in a non-conference double-header at Lake Trust Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
In Game 1: After a scoreless first inning, Indiana Wesleyan jumped on Cleary in the second inning, scoring eight runs to take a commanding lead. Cleary would get one back in the bottom of the 2nd, after Billy Flohr hit a triple (Zach Agemak would pinch run), Spencer Jamieson brought him home for Cleary's first run. The Wildcats would answer with a run in the top of the 4th, but Cleary's rally would start in the bottom half of the inning. Jeremy VanOosterum led off the Cougars side with a solo home run to straight away center field. The next batter, Billy Flohr, doubled (Agemak would pinch run). Spencer Jamieson would single to right to put runners on the corners. A Ryan Kadoguchi triple would clear the bases and cut the deficit to 9-4 in favor of the Wildcats. Jesnel Soto would bring home Kadoguchi with an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 9-5 through four innings. In the bottom of the 5th, Kendall Flaugher got on with a leadoff single. After Jeremy VanOosterum was hit by a pitch, Spencer Jamieson singled to center to score Flaugher and make the score 9-6. In the bottom of the 6th, Aaron Dyke drew a two-out walk, followed by a Kyle Miazgowicz walk. Aaron Dyke would advance to third on a passed ball, and as IWU's catcher attempted to throw him out, he made an errant throw, that allowed Dyke to score, making it 9-7. Indiana Wesleyan would get one back in the top of the 7th, and the Cougars were held in check in their final at bats.
Kendall Flaugher suffered the loss on the mound, while Spencer Jamieson went 3/4 with 3 RBI, and Billy Flohr added two hits for the Cougars.
In Game 2: Game two was all Indiana Wesleyan, as the Cougars' offense was held in check and unable to get anything going. The Wildcats scored two runs in the 1st, two in the second, and four in the 7th to secure the 8-0 victory. Nic Olson would take the loss pitching, while Cleary had six hits in the game. Those hits came from Kyle Miazgowicz (2), Kendall Flaugher, Jesnel Soto, Zach Agemak, and Zachary Freedman-Lloyd.
Cleary drops to 17-17 on the season, and will travel to Sylvania, Ohio on Friday for a WHAC double-header against Lourdes. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
