Cleary Stops Skid With Game 2 Victory at Lourdes
(Sylvania, OH)-- The Cleary Cougars baseball team made the trip to Ohio, and came back with one victory in a two game series against the Lourdes University Gray Wolves Friday afternoon.
In Game 1: After both teams struggled to get the offense going, Cleary would spot Lourdes ten runs in the bottom of the 5th, to give the hosts a 10-0 lead. Cleary would resond, as they scored three runs in the top of the 6th. Ryan Kadoguchi led off the inning with a single, followed by walks for Aaron Dyke and Kendall Flaugher to load the bases. Billy Flohr would double to left field to score Kadoguchi and Dyke to cut the deficit to 10-2. A Kyle Miazgowicz sacrifice fly would score Flaugher from third and make the score 10-3. In the 7th, Nicklas Koan and Zach Agemak both drew walks to lead off the inning, and Aaron Dyke would reach on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners. A passed ball would score Koan, and Anthony Lacle would single to left to score Dyke. Billy Flohr stayed hot with a double to left center to score Flaugher and Lacle to make the score 10-7, but the rally would fall short with no more runs coming home for the Cougars.
Travis Klocek would take the loss, allowing 7 R (6 earned) on 6 hits in 4.1 innings, while stirking out 5.
Billy Flohr went 3/4 with 4 RBI to lead the Cougars in the game.
In Game 2: After falling short on their game one rally, Cleary would start hot in game two to get things going. Ryan Kadoguchi led off the game with a single, followed by a Kendall Flaugher double. Billy Flohr tripled home Kadoguchi and Flaugher to make the score 2-0. An Anthony Lacle RBI groundout would make the score 3-0 through one inning. In the 2nd, Jesnel Soto and Kadoguchi both reached on errors, and Aaron Dyke singled to load the bases. Kendall Flaugher would draw an RBI walk to make the score 4-0. Neither team would do much until Cleary struck again in the 5th, starting with an Anthony Lacle single, followed by a Colton Fountain walk (Zach Agemak would pinch run). A sacrifice bunt would advance the runners, and Nicklas Koan single would score Lacle to make the score 5-0. Koan and Agemak would both double steal to make the score 6-0. In the 6th, Ryan Kadoguchi was hit by a pitch, followed by an Aaron Dyke walk. A Kendall Flaugher single to right would score Kadoguchi and advance Dyke to third base. Billy Flohr would hit a sacrifice fly to score Dyke and make the score 8-0. After Lourdes got on the board in the 8th, Cleary would strike again in the 9th to expand their lead. Colton Fountain led off the inning with a single (Agemak would pinch run), followed by a Gabriel Clark single, and an Ethan Barclay single to load the bases. Noah Howard would single to right to score Agemak and make the game 9-1. An Aaron Dyke RBI groundout would score Cleary's final run, and make it 10-1. Lourdes did score twice in the bottom of the 9th, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Lucas Withers was exceptional on the mound, allowing 1 R on 5 hits through 7.1 innings, and striking out 5. Kendall Flaugher, Billy Flohr, Anthony Lacle, Colton Fountain, and Nicklas Koan each added two hits for the Cougars.
Cleary improves to 18-18, 6-8 in the WHAC. The Cougars will travel to Madonna on Saturday, April 16, to take on the Crusaders in a WHAC double-header. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 PM
