(McKenzie, TN)-- The Cleary Cougars baseball team made the trip to McKenzie, Tennessee for a non-conference series vs. the Bethel Wildcats. The two teams played a double-header on Friday.
In Game 1: After the Wildcats scored two runs off Travis Klocek in the bottom of the 1st inning, the Cougars would settle into the game and make the plays they needed to take the lead. In the top of the 3rd, Caleb Buda singled with 1 out, then stole second to get into scoring position. After a fielder's choice advanced Buda to third, Billy Flohr reached on an error, but scored Buda to cut the deficit to 2-1. In the 4th, after Spencer Jamieson and Jesnel Soto singled, and Zach Agemak drew a walk, Ben Cerven singled to score Jamieson and Soto to give Cleary a 3-2 lead. Colin Brazil was called upon in the 6th inning to finish the game, and earned a 6-out save.
Travis Klocek earned the victory on the mound, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.
In Game 2: Caleb Buda singled and stole second, then advanced to 3rd on a passed ball. Billy Flohr brought Buda home on a sacrifice fly to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats would storm back, aided by a couple Cougar errors, and took an 8-1 lead, which they held onto through the final score.
Nate Raniszewski suffered the loss on the mound, while Noah Bowles came in and pitched 1.1 innings in relief. Cleary was held to 2 hits total in the game.
The Cougars are now 3-1 on the season. They will be back in action on Saturday for day two of their series with a pair of games. Game 1 is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM EST.
