Siena Heights
(Adrian, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar baseball team made the trip to Adrian, and took on the Siena Heights Saints Saturday afternoon on a day that saw game two delayed two hours due to lightning.
In Game 1: After Kristian Scalf led off the game with a hit by pitch, Billy Flohr picked up his first RBI of the day with a single to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Flohr would earn his second RBI on a bases load walk that scored Jesnel Soto. That would be all starting pitcher Haden Fisk needed, though things got interesting in the bottom of the 7th, as Siena Heights was able to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs. Fisk would get out of the jam, and help the Cougars win, with a groundout to end the game.
Fisk through a complete game (7 innings), allowing 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 8. Cleary's five hits came from Ben Cerven, Billy Flohr, Sam Browne, Spencer Jamieson, and Zach Agemak.
In Game 2: Ben Cerven brought home Kristian Scalf, and then scored himself on a wild pitch in the 1st inning. A Marcel Garcia double would score Albert Gonzalez to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead through one inning. In the 2nd, Scalf scored again, this time on a Ben Cerven home run to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Cougars. As the teams were preparing to start the 5th, lightning struck, and the two teams would wait almost two hours before play could resume.
Cleary would add three more runs to take the game 8-2.
Noah Bowles would pick up the win in relief, throwing 3 innings of shutout baseball. Ben Cerven went 3/5 with 3 RBI and 2 R, while Marcel Garcia went 2/4.
Cleary is now 24-15, 13-8 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back at the Lake on Tuesday, April 18, when they host the Aquinas Saints in a WHAC double-header. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 PM.
