Rochester
(Rochester Hills, MI) -- The Cleary Cougars baseball team traveled to Rochester Hills, Michigan today to take on the Rochester Christian University Warriors in a WHAC conference doubleheader. The boys would pull off two key wins to keep them in the hunt for the WHAC Playoff picture.
In Game 1: The boys would get off to a slow start but pick things up in the 3rd inning with an explosion for 5 runs in the inning. Back-to-back singles to start the inning would set Sam Browne up with an opportunity to drive in a run on a single to left field. Spencer Jamieson and Albert Gonzalez would pick up back-to-back RBI singles which would lead to Caleb Buda reaching on an error. Zach Agemak would drive in the final run of the inning giving the Cougars a 5-0 lead. Haden Fisk would stay dominant on the mound as the 2 hits he gave up all day would come in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Cougars would go on to add 3 more insurance runs in the 6th inning. Albert Gonzalez would pick up an RBI on a bases-loaded groundout. Ethan Barclay would add to his impressive week with a single for 2 more RBIs making it an 8-0 ballgame. Haden Fisk would go out and shut down the 7th inning with 2 strikeouts in the inning giving the Cougars a much-needed WHAC Conference win.
Haden Fisk (2-1) would go on to have one of the more impressive Cougar outings we have ever seen. He would go the complete game 7.0 innings while only allowing 2 hits with 15 strikeouts. He now takes the throne from former Cougar pitcher Garrett Larner for most strikeouts in a single game who had 12 on February 21, 2021, against Tennessee Southern.
In Game 2: After the Warriors would get out to an early 1-0 lead, the Cougar bats would get hot for 6 runs on 5 hits and 2 errors. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch and back-to-back errors would allow the Cougars to regain the lead. Gavin Kempainen, Sam Browne, and Spencer Jamieson would all pick up RBI singles in the inning giving the Cougars a 6-1 lead. After the Warriors would score 3 unanswered runs to make it a 6-4 ballgame, the Cougars would take control in the 6th inning and never look back. A 9 run, 6 hits, and 3 error inning would boost the Cougars to a massive 15-4 lead. Sam Browne would highlight the inning with a 2-run home run for his 3rd home run of the season. Rochester would gain 2 runs back in the bottom half of the inning and one more run in the 7th but the Cougars would prove to be too much for them. 1 run in the 7th and 2 more in the 8th added to the lead which would lead to the final 18-7 win for the Cougars.
Jacob Savina (1-4) would pick up his first win on the mound this year after going 4.2 innings pitched, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits. Sam Browne would go 2-3 in the game with 3 walks and 4 RBIs as well.
