Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Trojans
(Rochester, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's basketball team made history Friday evening, as they played the program's first ever game in a matchup with the Taylor Trojans, as they participated in the Travis Bass Classic hosted by Rochester University.
Brockton Kohler scored the game's first points, and the first in Cleary's history, as he made a three point attempt to open the game. Cleary would hold an early four point lead, but the Trojans turned up the defense, and Cleary's offense went cold, as the Trojans would go on a run, and ultimately took a seven point lead into halftime. The run would continue into the second half, and the Trojans would ice the game, going on to win by a 91-66 scoreline.
Jaylen Cole-Williams was the leading scorer for the Cougars, as he scored 14 points on 4-12 shooting, also adding 6 assists. Anthony Ivey added 11 points and 4 rebounds off the bench, while Chris Williams posted a 10 point 6 rebound night. 9/10 Cougars that played would find the basket.
Cleary struggled offensively, shooting 23-74 for the game (31%), and 8-30 from three point range (26.7%).
The Cougars are now 0-1, and will be back in action on Saturday, November 4, when they take on the St. Xavier Cougars in game two of the Travis Bass Classic at Rochester University. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
