Men's Basketball Loses Heartbreaker to Siena Heights
(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's basketball team had their chances, but couldn't get over the hump, as they dropped a WHAC matchup with the visiting Siena Heights University Saints Saturday evening at Gannon Gymnasium.
It was a true back and forth affair, as the game featured 10 lead changes and 7 ties, as both teams did everything they could to put their stamp on the game. Siena Heights would build a six point lead early in the second half, their largest of the game, but the Cougars clawed back and had a chance to take the lead on the last shot of the game. As time was running down, Bennie Crenshaw Jr. drove to the basket, but missed a contested layup. The Saints would grab the ensuing loose ball, and ran out the clock for a 55-54 Cleary defeat.
Siena Heights outscored Cleary 26-16 in the paint, and outrebounded the Cougars 35-31.
Jaylen Cole-Williams posted a game-high 19 points, and hit 5-11 three point attempts, to lead the Cleary offense. Bennie Crenshaw Jr. added 10 points and 4 assists. Nick Moore added 8 points off the bench, while Tim Kewley had 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in the game off the bench.
Cleary drops to 0-7 overall, and 0-4 in the WHAC. The Cougars will search for their first victory once again next Friday, when they travel to Central Ohio to take on the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 PM.
