Rochester Pulls Away in Second Half from Men's Basketball
(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's basketball team returned to WHAC play by welcoming in one of the nation's best, as they hosted the Rochester Warriors at Gannon Gymnasium on Saturday.
The two teams would trade baskets for most of the first half, but it would be Cleary who established the lead more consistenly in the first twenty minutes. The Cougars would build their largest lead of the game with just over 3:30 left to play in the first half, as they were leading 32-25. The Warriors would finish the half on an 9-2 run to tie the game at 34-34, a score that would take the two teams into halftime.
Cleary would come out strong in the second half, taking a quick 42-37 lead. After Rochester tied the game at 42-42, Cleary once again built a four point lead at 46-42, but the ensuing Warrior run would be the biggest of the game, as Rochester took control of the game, and built a double-digit lead that would be too much for the Cougars to overcome.
Chris Williams posted a career high 22 points on 9-15 shooting, to go with 7 rebounds. Jaylen Cole-Williams added 13 points and 4 steals, while Bennie Crenshaw Jr. had 12 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Brockton Kohler had a solid game with 7 points and a game high 10 rebounds.
Cleary falls to 0-10, 0-6 in the WHAC. The Cougars will hit the road to Pittsburgh on Tuesday, when they take on the Point Park Pioneers in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled for 3:00 PM ET.
