Men's Basketball Comes Up Short to Racers
(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's basketball team's offense struggled to get in gear, as the visiting UNOH Racers came to Lansing and left with a victory Saturday evening.
The Racers would score the game's first five points, but Tyree Jones would answer with a pair of early baskets. A Jaylen Cole-Williams three pointer would give Cleary the lead at 7-6, and Chris Williams extended that lead after a layup to make it 9-6. Chris Williams would hit a three just moments later, and the Cougar lead would grow to six points. The Racers would come alive, and went on a 19-2 run to take a 25-14 lead in the game. Brockton Kohler and Chris Williams would each score a layup, but another Racer three would give the visitors a double-digit lead. The teams would trade baskets for the rest of the half, but UNOH would still hold a 35-23 lead at the break.
Tyree Jones would start the second half the way he started the first, and scored a layup to cut the Racer lead to one. The Racers responded, and went on another run to take an 18 point advantage. Cleary would cut the lead to 12, but were unable to get any closer than that, as UNOH would cruise to an 82-64 win.
Chris Williams had a team high 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Jaylen-Cole Williams hit four threes to score 12 points. Tyree Jones added 10 points and 4 rebounds for the Cougars.
Cleary falls to 1-18, 1-13 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be on the road on Wednesday, January 31, when they take on the Rochester Warriors in a WHAC matchup.
