Men's Basketball Takes Down Wolverines
(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's basketball team won their second game out of their last three Saturday evening, as they won a game over the UM-Dearborn Wolverines 80-68.
Tyree Jones got things going with a layup to give the Cougars the lead, and added another basket moments later. After Chris Williams hit an open three, and Bennie Crenshaw Jr. tipped-in an offensive rebound, Cleary was up 9-0. The Wolverines would make a run to cut the Cougar lead to 12-6, but the Cougars responded with an 11-1 run, taking a 23-10 lead in the game. The Cougars would hold a double-digit lead until late in the half, when the Wolverines hit a three at the buzzer to cut the deficit to nine points.
In the second half, the Cougars quickly regained their double-digit advantage, and built a twenty point lead with just over nine minutes to play in the game, when the Cougars were leading 61-41. The Wolverines would cut the deficit ten, but were unable to gain any more ground, as the Cougars held on to win 80-68.
Three Cleary players posted double-doubles in the game. Chris Williams had 16 points wnd 11 rebounds, while Tim Kewley had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Bennie Crenshaw Jr. had 13 points and 10 assists. Every Cougar that played scored at least 3 points in a game that never saw the Cougars trail.
Cleary is now 3-22 overall, 3-17 in the WHAC. The Cougars will welcome the 1st place Madonna Crusaders to Gannon Gymnasium on Wednesday for a 7:30 PM tip-off.
