Both Men's and Women's Bowling Reach Bracket Play at WHAC Championships
(Jackson, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's and women's bowling teams were in action Saturday for the WHAC Championships at JAX60 in Jackson, Michigan.
The day featured no individual games, three bakers sets to determine bracket seeding, and then best-of-five games to advance.
Cleary's men's bowling team bowled three baker sets, with games of 955-1028-1074 to earn a 5-seed in the bracket play.
In the bracket play, 5-seed Cleary would be matched up against 4-seed Aquinas. Aquinas would win game one 205-180. Cleary would win game two 253-160. Aquinas win game three 227-214, but Cleary would win game four 246-192 to advance to the semifinal match. In the semifinals, 5-seed Cleary was matched with 1-seed Lawrence Tech. The Cougars would win game one 233-168, but the Blue Devils would win games two, three, and four to advance to the championship match.
Cleary's women's bowling team bowled three baker sets, with games of 847-895-815 to earn the 6-seed in bracket play.
In bracket play, 6-seed Cleary was paired with 3-seed Madonna, and the Cougars took 3/4 games. In game one, Cleary won 201-140. Madonna would win game two 186-143, but the Cougars won the next two 179-174 and 159-133 to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, 6-seed Cleary was paired with 2-seed Lawrence Tech, and the Blue Devils got the best of Cleary in three of the four games played, with the two teams tying in game three 204-204.
Both men's and women's bowling teams will be back in action next weekend when they bowl in the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Michigan.
