(Howell, MI)-- It was a physical game under the lights at Lake Trust Stadium, but neither the visiting Olivet Comets or the Cleary Cougars could find the back of the net, as the Cougars' home opener ended in a 0-0 draw.
Cleary started the game on the front foot for the first five minutes, creating a couple chances early. Olivet would settle into the game and start to create some balance in the game. With both teams feeling each other out, and with the game being played between the boxes, little opportunities were created. Olivet did have a solid chance on a corner kick, but Vaios Papadoudis made a great reaction save. Both teams would go into the half tied 0-0.
In the second half, the Comets started to get more into the game, and that resulted in more shot attempts, corner attempts, and overall chances created, but Papadoudis and the Cougar backline stood tall, making the saves and plays that they needed to to ensure nothing dangerous was created. Like the first half, the game would end 0-0.
Vaios Papadoudis earned a clean sheet in goal, making 9 saves to improve his record on the season to 0-1-2. Benji Sulcas and Juan Carlos Gomez Ponce were responsible for the best chances for Cleary, as they provided both shots on goal. Olivet outshot Cleary 18-7, earned 9 corner kicks to Cleary's 5, and forced 9 saves to Olivet's 2. Cleary had the edge in fouls 18-14.
Cleary (0-1-2) will next be in action on Saturday, September 3, when they host the Roosevelt Lakers at Lake Trust Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
