(Howell, MI)-- It looked like the Cleary Cougar men's soccer team would open things up right off the opening kickoff, but Eric Nshimiyimana missed the net, keeping things even at 0-0. Rochester would start to control the game, and the visitors opened up the scoring first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. That score held into the halftime break.
Cleary would come out and start to control the game in the second half, but the Warrior defense would not break, as they held firm and kept the Cougars out of the net. Rochester would score the dagger in the 79th minute, as they were able to get the ball past Cougar goalkeeper Vaios Papadoudis to take a 2-0 lead, and held on the win the game by that score.
"This was a tough one to swallow," said head coach Dan Bulley. "We lost the game by failing to be stronger defensively on their first goal, and by not taking advantage of our chances in the box after a dominant second half display. It's pleasing to see some of the soccer being played, and the fact that we are creating chances gives us many positives ahead of Wednesday."
Rochester held the advantage on shots (16-14), shots on goal (9-8), and corner kicks (6-2). Cleary drops to 2-4-2 overall, 0-1 in WHAC play. The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, September 28, when they travel to Madonna to take on the Crusaders. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
