(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team had a plan, and were able to stick to it for most of the game, but the visiting Indiana Tech Warriors were able to break through enough to earn a 3-1 victory at Lake Trust Stadium Wednesday evening.
After doing a very good job of limiting the #18 ranked Warriors through the first half hour, the visitors did get their breakthrough in the 35th minute. After a shot was saved by Austin Freemire, but was not controlled, the Warriors were able to jump on the opportunity to get the rebound into the net to take a 1-0 lead. Though Indiana Tech controlled possession, they were not as dangerous the rest of the half, and were able to hold on to a 1-0 lead into the break.
Shortly after halftime, the Cougars started to push forward looking for the equalizer. They would draw a penalty after Lesman Morazan fired a shot inside the penalty area, and the Warriors defender used his arm to deflect it, giving the Cougars a penalty kick. Morazan stepped up and calmly scored his 6th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. The goal seemed to wake up the Warriors, as they regained control of the game, and things opened up for Indiana Tech on a long through ball in the 59th minute that set up the go-ahead goal. 18 minutes later, the Warriors scored the dagger to make the game 3-1, and held on to win by that score.
Austin Freemire made 8 saves in his second start of the season. Lesman Morazan now has 5 goals in his last 6 games. Cleary drops to 3-8-4, 1-5-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday, October 22, when they host the Aquinas Saints at Lake Trust Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
