Men's Soccer Drops Opener to Spring Arbor
(Spring Arbor, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team hit the road to open their 2023 campaign, but fell to the host Spring Arbor Cougars 5-2 Saturday evening.
After giving up the opening goal, Cleary would equalize in the 11th minute to tie the game. Adam Baldwin slid a through ball into the box for Lesman Morazan, who got taken down by the Spring Arbor goalie for a penalty. Morazan would convert, and tied the game at 1-1. Spring Arbor would respond by scoring the game's next three goals, and took a 4-1 lead into halftime. In the second half, Morazan would get his 2nd goal and brace. After Jack Heald forced a turnover, the Cougars put numbers forward. Adam Baldwin would recycle the ball to the top of the box for Felix Arndt, whose centering pass was redirected by Morazan into the goal, cutting the deficit to 4-2. Spring Arbor would add an insurance goal on a Cleary own goal, and the game would end with a 5-2 final score.
Vaios Papadoudis would take the loss, allowing 5 goals on 10 shots faced. Lesman Morazan scored 2 goals on 3 shots to lead the Cougar offense.
Cleary drops to 0-1 on the season. The Cougars will be back in action next Friday, August 25, when they travel to Chicago-land for a pair of games. Friday's game will be at 7:00 PM at Calumet College.
