(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team controlled things from the opening whistle, as they went on to earn their second shutout of the season, defeating the visiting Trailblazers of Ohio Christian 3-0 at Lake Trust Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Joey Branicki opened his account on a corner kick that was played short by Santino Savastano-Farr to Lesman Morazan. Morazan played it back to Savastano-Farr who crossed the ball into the box, and found the leaping foot of Branicki. Twenty minutes later, a Trailblazer handball inside the box gave the Cougars an opportunity to expand their lead, and Lesman Morazan slotted home his 4th goal of the season. The Cougars would go into the half by that scoreline.
In the second half, Cleary scored their final goal on a great combination play by Marcel Zanchin and Adam Baldwin, setting up a 1 vs. the keeper for Baldwin who calmly scored his first goal of the season.
Cleary's defense was up to the task, as they outshot the Trailblazers 30-0, with 11 shots on goal for Cleary. Cleary also held the advantage on corner kicks (14-0).
Diego Amezola-Orozco earned his second shutout and win of the season to improve to 2-1 on the year. Lesman Morazan led the offense with 8 shots, 5 on target.
Cleary is now 2-2 on the year. The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, September 6, when they welcome the Alma Scots to Lake Trust Stadium for a game under the lights. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM.
