(Dearborn Hts, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team hit the road, but were unable to bring home a victory, as they UM-Dearborn Wolverines won the two teams' WHAC matchup Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Wolverines dominate most of possession and shooting statistics, Cleary made some adjustments for the final 45 minutes, and grew into the game. Those adjustments appeared to bring a goal in the 54th minute, as Alwayne Whittaker slipped the ball past the goalie, but he was ruled to be offiside, and the goal did count. After much back and forth action, it would be the Wolverines that got the big break, as the hosts capitalized on a free kick from their defensive end. The ball bounced around, before being sent wide, and the Wolverine player dribbled and fired a shot past goalie Austin Freemire in the 82nd minute. That lone goal would be the game's only goal, as the Cougars were unable to find the equalizer.
Austin Freemire took the loss in goal, as he made 7 saves on 8 shots on goal. UM-Dearborn held the shot advantage at 15-4 (8-1 on goal). The Wolverines also held an 8-1 corner kick advantage in the game.
Cleary drops to 4-5-3 overall, 1-2-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, October 11, when they host the UNOH Racers at Lake Trust Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
