Men's Soccer Falls in Crucial WHAC Bout to Lourdes
(Sylvania, OH)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team hit the road to Ohio, but were unable to bring back a victory, as they fell to the host Lourdes Gray Wolves 3-1 Wednesday evening at Wildcat Stadium in Sylvania, Ohio.
Cleary would get a golden opportunity in the 24th minute, when a Lourdes player took a red card in the 24th minute, forcing the Gray Wolves to play a man down for the remainder of the game. The card would not phase the hosts, and they scored just seven minutes later to take the lead 1-0.
In the second half, Cleary got an equalizer, when Lesman Morazan found an open Adam Baldwin up the middle, who scored his second goal of the season. Lourdes would get a pair of goals down the stretch, just two minutes apart, to take the lead, and seal the victory.
Due to injury and red card suspension, Thomas Kanouna got the start in goal, and made 6 saves on 9 shots faced to take the loss.
Cleary drops to 5-9-3, 2-6-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will recognize this year's senior class as part of Senior Day on Saturday, October 28, when they host the Siena Heights Saints with plenty still to play for. Cleary can still qualify for the WHAC tournament with a win over the Saints AND a UM-Dearborn loss to Lourdes, a scenario that would push the Cougars to 11 points.
