(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team had everything to play for Saturday evening, but were unable to make it to the WHAC tournament, after the Siena Heights Saints claimed a 2-1 victory on Senior Day.
The Saints would score a pair of goals just six minutes apart in the first 14 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the half. Cleary would answer in the second half, when Marcel Zanchin centered a cross from the left wing that found the foot of Adam Baldwin, who placed it perfectly past the Saints goalie to cut into the lead, but the Cougars would be unable to find the net again the rest of the game.
Earlier in the day, Lourdes University had defeated UM-Dearborn, meaning that an outright victory by either Siena Heights or Cleary would clinch the 8th and final WHAC tournament birth. After the early goals scored by Siena Heights, Cleary would have had to win by at least a 3-2 margin to claim that final playoff spot.
Austin Freemire made 6 saves in the game in a losing effort. Adam Baldwin's goal was his third of the season.
Cleary finishes the season 5-10-3 overall, 2-7-2 in the WHAC.
