(Alma, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team won their second consecutive game, and third overall, as they went on the road and took down the Alma College Scots Wednesday afternoon.
Alma started the game off as the stronger side, forcing multiple saves from goalkeeper Austin Freemire in the first ten minutes. The Cougars settled into the action, and started to take control. After some shouts for a penalty in the box, Cleary would draw a penalty in the 29th minute. Santino Savastano-Farr sent a perfectly weighted through ball up the middle for Lesman Morazan, who was taken down in the penalty area. Morazan would convert the penalty, giving Cleary a 1-0 lead, while scoring his second goal of the season. Cleary held a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Cleary would double the lead, thanks to a counter-attack drawn penalty. Austin Freemire caught an Alma corner kick, and booted it down the pitch to find Adam Baldwin, who was taken down just inside the penalty area with one final Scot defender to beat. Lesman Morazan stepped up to take the penalty, and once again converted, to give the Cougars a 2-0 advantage in the 53rd minute. Just three minutes later, the Cougars added their third and final goal of the game. After the restart of a Scot foul, Liam Coyle threaded a pass to Lesman Morazan, who flicked the ball on the first touch to teammate Adam Baldwin, who slotted the ball past the Scot goalkeeper. Cleary would hold the 3-0 advantage until late, when Alma did get one goal back, but it would not be enough, as the game ended with a 3-1 score.
Austin Freemire would earn his second win of the season while making 6 saves on 7 shots faced. Lesman Morazan added 2 goals and 1 assist.
Cleary is now 3-1 on the season, and will make their return to Lake Trust Stadium this Saturday, September 7, when they host the Great Lakes Christian College Crusaders. The game is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
