Wrestling Has Multiple Finalists at Pepsi Patriot Open
(Williamsburg, KY)-- The Cleary University wrestling team opened their season at the Pepsi Patriot Open, hosted by the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky on Saturday. Wrestlers were entered into the bracket play for either the Freshman/Sophomore (Fr/So) division, or the Open division.
In the Open 125 pound division
- Jamarcus Smith won a 7-2 decision over Cornerstone's Jeff Bailey, then won a 7-4 decision, and a 7-4 decision to advance to the semi's. In the Semi's Smith lost a 6-5 decision, and was pinned in the consolation semi's. Smith went 3-2 on the day
- Mariano Lopezlost his first match in a pin, but won his next two matches 14-5 and 1-0, before losing by a 9-3 decision, going 2-2 on the day.
In the Open 141 pound division
- TJ Daugherty won his first match over Lourdes' Dru Wilson 8-5. Daugherty would then win his next match, but he would stay hot with a 9-2 decision, and then a 13-10 decision to advance to the championship match. In that match, Daugherty would win a 3-0 decision over Life's Jordan Mitchell to earn 1st place. Daugherty went 4-1 on the day
In the Open 149 pound division
- Ryan Weaver went 0-2 on the day in his bracket
- Louden Stradling won his first match on a technical fall 18-2. He would then lose a 5-4 decision, but would win the next two match in the consolation bracket 5-0 and a sudden victory. After winning by forfeit, he won a 4-2 decision to advance to the third place match, where he defeated Indiana Tech's Mike Loney 4-2, to claim 3rd place
In the Open 157 pound division
- Ty Johnson won his first match over Indiana Tech's Scott Fitts 11-4, but lost his next two matches on the day, going 1-2
In the Open 197 pound division
- Tunde Oroye went 0-2 on the day in his bracket
In the Open 285 pound divison
- Eathan Westfall went 0-2 on the day in his bracket
In the Fr/So 133 pound division
- Jake Lynn would lose his first round matchup, but won over Keiser's Trevon Hawkins Robertson by a technical fall. Lynn would lose via decision in the consolation round, going 1-2 on the day
- Luke Connick lost his first match via a 4-3 decision, then won his next matchup via a 13-11 decision, before losing his final match via decision, going 1-2 on the day
In the Fr/So 141 pound divison
- Preston Auld lost his first round matchup via a major decision. Ault would recover to win a major decision 19-7 in his next round, but lost his final match of the day, going 1-2
In the Fr/So 149 pound division
- Jack Gruno would lose his first round match by a 4-2 decision, and was pinned in his next match, going 0-2
In the Fr/So 157 pound division
- Colin Jewell won his first match via a 11-3 major decision, then earned a pin over Rochester's Sebastian Prisbe in 2:11. In the semifinals, Jewell lost a major decision to Bellarmine's Dillon Graham. Jewell would lose on a medical forfeit in the consolation semis, and consolation 5th place match, but would still take 6th place in the bracket
In the Fr/So 165 pound division
- Both Alex Nouhan and Wyatt Clements would go 0-2 in their respective brackets
In the Fr/So 184 pound division
- Both David Hernandez and Justin Rodriguez would go 0-2 in their respective brackets
- Lenton Patrick lost via a 6-1 decision to start his day, but Patrick would recover nicely. He would earn a pin over WVU Tech's Alexander Tempus in 1:55, then another pin over Brewton-Parker's Malankov Daceus in 4:35. In the fourth match, Patrick would pin Montevallo's Dalton Wainwright in 1:50. A sudden victory, and another pin would put Patrick in the semi's, where Patrick would lose by no contest. In the 5th place match, Patrick would double-forfeit and claim 6th place overall
In the Fr/So 197 pound division
- Eli Murphy lost his first match by a technical fall. Murphy would then earn back to back pins, and then a 5-2 decision to advance to the semi's. In the semi's, Murphy would win a 6-0 decision to advance to the third place match, where he lost a major decision 10-0, but finishing in 4th place
In the Fr/So 285 pound divison
- Ryan Kincaid went 0-2 in his bracket
- Connor Crepeau would go 1-2 after earning a pin in his second round match.
