(Ft. Wayne, IN)-- The Cleary Cougars men's and women's cross country teams competed in the WHAC Championships on Saturday to conclude their fall seasons. Cornerstone swept both the men's and women's titles, but the Cougars did earn some recognition for their efforts.
In the men's race: Donovan White ran an 8K time of 26:34.0 to pace the Cougars to finish in 20th place overall. Ethan Beres ran a 26:43.6 to finish in 27th place. Wyatt Emmons finished in 38th place after running a 27:21.8. Steven Bisard and Camden Staples both ran a 29:34.8 to finish in 92nd and 93rd places respectively. As a team, the Cougars would finish in 7th place out of 11 teams.
In the women's race: Mallory Tognetti finished in 13th place with a time of 18:53.9 in her 5K race, which was good enough to place her on the 2nd Team All Conference. Lauren Gores was the next Cougar runner to finish with a time of 20:53.5 to finish in 56th place. Abby McClelland finished in 76th place after running a 22:09.5. Chloe O'Boyle ran a 23:25.8 and Jillian Clark ran a 23:56.9 to round out the Cougar team scores. Cleary would finish in 11th place on the day.
As mentioned, Mallory Tognetti's time of 18:53.9 was enough to earn her a spot on the Seond Team All Conference, making her the only Cougar on either team to earn that distinction this season. Tognetti was also named to the Champions of Character team, as well as the Women's All-Academic Team with teammates Abby McClelland and Georgia Price.
Cleary's Joel Hartleb was the only runner recognized from the Men's team, as Joel was named to the Men's Champions of Character Team.
Congratulations to all the Cougar runners for their efforts this season, and to those who were recognized with post-season accolades!
