Lourdes
(Sylvania, OH)-- The Cleary University softball team made the trek to Ohio to take on the Gray Wolves of Lourdes University, and came back with a victory in their WHAC athletics double-header.
In Game 1: Lourdes would start things off in the bottom of the 1st with a run, but Cleary responded in the top of the 2nd. After Izzy Easton (Izabell Estes would pinch run) reached on an error and Allison Lesonsky drew a walk, Jenna Wagenschutz singled up the middle to score Estes and tie the game and advanced Lesonsky to third base. A wild pitch would score Wagenschutz and give Cleary the lead. In the 4th, Kate Currie hit a 2-out single, and Allison Lesonsky doubled to right center to score Currie and give the Cougars a 3-1 lead. In the 5th, Courtney Ture was hit by a pitch, and Oshieauna Phifer singled and advanced on the throw, while Ture would come home to score and expand the lead to 4-1. The very next batter, Sarah Cassidy, would homer to center field and score Phifer to give the Cougars a 6-1 lead. Lourdes would try to rally, scoring four runs to cut the lead to 6-5, but the Cougars held on and took game one.
Allison Lesonsky took the win, allowing 4 R on 9 hits through 5.2 innings. Osheiauna Phifer went 2/4, while Sarah Cassidy had the two run home run while going 1/4 at the plate.
In Game 2: After Lourdes scored three runs in the first three innings, Cleary took the lead in the top of the 4th. Jenna Wagenschutz led off the inning with a single, Mia Rzepka was hit by a pitch, and Grace Pasterik singled to load the bases. Courtney Ture would reach on a fielder's choice, and both Wagenshutz and Rzepka came home to score. The next batter, Osheiauna Phifer, singled up the middle and would score on a throwing error that also allowed Ture to score and give the Cougars a 4-3 lead. The Gray Wolves answered in the bottom of the 4th to take a 6-4 lead, and held on to win by that score.
Alexis Beeson took the loss in a complete game, allowing 6 R on 13 hits. Kate Currie went 2/3 on the day, while Izzy Easton, Jenna Wagenschutz, Grace Pasterik, and Osheiauna Phifer each added a hit.
