Cougars End Season in Loss to Lawrence Tech
(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar softball team finished the 2022 season on Sunday afternoon, as they played the rest of a game that started on April 24 against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils.
The game picked up on Sunday in the bottom of the 3rd, with Cleary trailing 3-0, and had runners on first and second. LTU was able to get out of the jam, and added another run in the top of the 4th to take a 4-0 lead. Cleary would answer in the bottom of the inning, when Susie Bielecki reached on an error (Izzy Estes would pinch run), and brought Mia Rzepka to the plate. Rzepka hit a home run, the first of her career, to right center to cut the Blue Devil lead to 4-2, but the rally would fall short with no more Cougar runs scored. In the 5th, LTU would add three runs, and one more in the 6th to take an 8-2 lead. Cleary's final run would come in the 6th, after Mercedes Cole and Courtney Ture both hit a 2-out singles, Jenna Wagenschutz singled to left to score Cole, making the score 8-3. The Blue Devils would hold on to win by that score.
Allison Lesonsky suffered the loss, as she allowed 7 runs on 7 hits through 4.1 innings pitched. At the plate, Osheiauna Phifer went 2/4 with a stolen base, her 29th this season. Sarah Cassidy, Mia Rzepka, Mercedes Cole, Courtney Ture, and Jenna Wagenshutz each posted one hit for the Cougars.
Cleary finishes the season 15-35, 4-18 in the WHAC
