(Grand Rapids, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars softball team made the trip to Grand Rapids, but fell to the host Cornerstone Golden Eagles in a WHAC series being made up from Saturday.
In Game 1: Maddie Campbell doubled home Maddie Bunkoske to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead, but the Golden Eagles would respond, scoring the next six runs of the game. Cleary would score in the 5th when Mckenzie Latshaw singled home Maddie Campbell to make the score 6-2. After another Cornerstone run, Cleary scored their final run of the game when Madi Best singled to score Courtney Ture.
Sonya Terleckyj suffered the loss for Cleary, allowing 7 runs on 11 hits. Maddie Campbell led Cleary with a 2/3 showing at the plate.
In Game 2: Cornerstone scored two early runs, but Kate Currie got the Cougars on the board with an RBI double that scored Maddie Campbell. Two Cornerstone home runs expanded the lead to 4-1. Cleary would cut into the lead with a Maddie Campbell RBI single that scored Ashleigh Tatara, and an Izzy Easton single scored Campbell to make the score 4-3. The Golden Eagles would hit another home run, and added all the insurance runs they needed, as the hosts would go on to win 11-3.
Halle Dargie took the loss for Cleary, as she allowed 6 runs on 9 hits. Maddie Campbell, Kate Currie, and Izzy Easton each had two hits to lead the Cougars offense.
Cleary drops to 6-19, 0-4 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the UM-Dearborn Wolverines at Lake Trust Stadium, weather permitting. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
