Team Stats
Rochester
(Howell, MI)—The Cougars picked up their first two conference wins of the season against Rochester University. The final scores of the two games were (INSERT) and (INSERT), respectively.
In Game 1: Although the game had a slow start, the Cougars pulled away in the top of the 5th inning to secure a nice lead over the Warriors. Caitlynn Duffey threw a complete game for the Cougars only allowing 1 run and 3 hits against Rochester while striking out a career best 12 Warriors in the game. Her record has now improved to 2-7.
The Cougar offense had a great day at the plate collecting 9 hits for 6 runs. Team leaders for game one were Kate Currie, Maddie Bunkoske, and Grace Pasterik. Currie and Bunkoske both went 2-for-4, and Pasterik went 2-for-3. Currie also led the team in RBIs with two.
In Game 2: The Cougars had a nail-biter of a second game as both teams went scoreless until the top of the 6th. The Cougars took the lead 2-0, but the Warriors answered quickly adding 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead 3-2. Grace Pasterik was able to score in the top of the 7th bringing tying the game. Shortly after, with Ginelle Leslie and Jenna Wagenschutz were on base, Courtney Ture tripled to bring in 2 runs and secure the lead. Halle Dargie relieved Sonya Terleckyj and will record the save for game 2, improving her record to 2-6. The final score of the game was 6-3 in favor of the Cougars.
Ture led the team in hits going 2-for-4, and also led the team in RBIs with two. Wagenschutz, Pasterik, and Maddie Campbell we're responsible for the remainder of the hits for the Cougar offense.
Cleary is now 8-23, 2-8 in the WHAC. The Cougars will play a double-header Saturday away against Aquinas, with game times being 11am and 1pm. The games will be played at Davenport University's softball field.
