(Howell, MI)—The Cougars played at home on Saturday against the Madonna Crusaders. Both games were hard fought, but the Cougars couldn't finish on top.
In Game 1: Both teams were scoreless going into the 4th, until Madonna added 3 in top of the inning. Sonya Terleckyj came out of the game in the 5th and was relieved by Halle Dargie. In the bottom of the seventh, Cleary ended their scoreless game by adding three runs. That was all they would be able to get before the Crusaders got three outs, making the final score 5-3 in favor of Madonna.
The Cougars collected five hits in game one with Courtney Ture leading the offense and going 2-for-4. Maddie Campbell, Kate Currie, and Grace Pasterik added one hit each to finish the remainder of the Cleary's hits.
In Game 2: The Crusaders jumped on Cleary's defense early on, taking the a 4-0 lead after the second inning. These four runs would be the only runs scored in the game for both teams, giving Madonna the 4-0 win. Caitlynn Duffey threw all 7 innings for the Cougars only allowing the 4 runs on 8 hits.
The Cougars struggled offensively in game two, only collecting 1 hit in the entire game. The hit is credited to Izzy Easton, when she singled to left-center field in the second inning.
The Cougars will host the Concordia Cardinals tomorrow, April 16th, at Lake Trust Stadium. Game one is set to start at 11:00am with game two starting shortly after the completion of game one.
