(Howell, MI)—Cleary softball hosted the Concordia Cardinals Wednesday night. The Cougars fell short in game one, 2-0, and again in game two, 5-4.
In Game 1: Both teams struggled to put their offense together, but Concordia was able to take the lead early on. Caitlynn Duffey started the game and threw five innings before being relieved by Sonya Terleckyj. Duffey took the loss for the first game, despite allowing one run on 8 hits
The Cougars weren't able to put their 5 hits together to score any runs. One hit each was provided by Maddie Campbell, Kate Currie, Izzy Easton, Gabby Monreal, and Jenna Wagenschutz.
In Game 2: Concordia jumped on the Cougars early in game two taking a 4-2 lead after the third inning. After a double by Wagenschutz and a triple by Grace Pasterik in the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars were able to close the gap between the Cardinals making the score 5-4. But after a scoreless seventh inning, the Cougars would lose game two. Halle Dargie started the game and went 6 innings before being relieved by Terleckyj.
A much improved offensive game for the Cougars in game two with Pasterik going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Maddie Bunkoske also collected an RBI, and went 1-for-2.
Cleary will be on the road for their next double-header, traveling to Adrian to play Siena Heights. Game 1 of the series will start at 1pm.
