(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team opened the new year with a WHAC matchup against the Cornerstone Golden Eagles Wednesday evening at Gannon Gymnasium in Lansing, Michigan.
After Cornerstone started the game off strong and built a double-digit lead, Cleary would battle back to narrow the deficit to 17-12 in the early second quarter. The Golden Eagles would then go on a 16-0 run to take command of the game, and took a 17 point lead into the halftime break. Cleary would come out strong in the third quarter, and won that stretch of 10-minutes, but the deficit would be too large for the Cougars to overcome.
Mileisha Rodriguez tallied her third double-double of the season to lead Cleary in points with 17, and in rebounds with 10. Taedom Stein added 13 points and 7 rebounds, while Hannah Covert posted 7 points and 3 assists in her season debut.
Cleary falls to 1-12 overall, 1-6 in the WHAC. The Cougars will play their first of four straight road games on Saturday, when they make the short trip to Ann Arbor to take on the Concordia Cardinals. The game is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET.
