(Ann Arbor, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team made the trip down US-23 to take on the preseason conference favorites, the Concordia Cardinals, in a WHAC matchup Saturday afternoon.
After a Mileisha Rodriguez free throw, and a Taedom Stein layup, the Cougars held an early 3-0 lead. The Cardinals would wake up, and go on a 16-2 run, ultimately taking an 18-11 lead into the first quarter break. The second quarter was all CUAA, as the hosts outscored Cleary 23-6 in the second ten minutes, as Cleary would go into the break down 41-17.
The Cardinal defense would continue to cause Cleary issues, as the Cougars were held to 7 points in the third quarter. Cleary would make some fourth quarter adjustments, and did better in the final stanza, but the margin was too great to overcome, as the Cardinals went on to win 78-39.
Taedom Stein led the Cleary offense with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Hannah Covert added 10 points and 4 rebounds off the bench for the Cougars.
Cleary drops to 1-13 overall, 1-7 in the WHAC. The ladies will be back on the road on Wednesday, January 10, when they take on the Lourdes Gray Wolves in a WHAC matchup. The game is scheduled for 5:30 PM ET.
