Cold Shooting Night Plagues Women's Basketball at Indiana Tech
(Fort Wayne, IN)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team kept it close after the first quarter, but went cold in the second, as the Indiana Tech Warriors pulled away in the two teams' WHAC matchup Wednesday evening in Ft. Wayne.
The Warriors would jump out to an early 6-0 lead, but Amy Jackson made four consecutive free throws to get the Cougars on the board. Indiana Tech would go on an 8-2 run to expand their lead to 14-6, but the Cougars would respond late in the first quarter, when Mileisha Rodriguez scored a layup, and a Taedom Stein layup before the buzzer cut the Warrior lead to 14-10 through ten minutes of action.
The second quarter was all Warriors, and though the Cougar defense made plays and limited the Warriors' scoring chances, the offense struggled. Indiana Tech would go on a 14-0 run to start the second quarter, and a Rylee Thomas made three point shot would be the lone Cougar points in the period.
Trailing 36-13, Cleary would regroup in the second half, trading baskets with the Warriors, and were unable to gain any ground, and Indiana Tech would pull further away down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
Cleary was held to 27% shooting on the night, and only made 3-21 three pointers, all from Rylee Thomas. The #23 ranked Warriors would outrebound Cleary 48-27.
Rylee Thomas and Mileisha Rodriguez each had 9 points to lead the Cleary offense, while Rodriguez added 6 rebounds. Taedom Stein had 8 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.
Cleary falls to 4-15 overall, 4-9 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back at Gannon Gymnasium on Saturday, January 26, when they host the UNOH Racers in a WHAC matchup. The game will begin at 5:30 PM.
