Siena Heights Too Much for Women's Basketball
(Adrian, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team went up against one of the WHAC's best, but were unable to come away with a victory, as the Siena Heights Saints took down Cleary Saturday afternoon in Adrian.
The Saints would start the game on an 11-0 run before an Amy Jackson three pointer got the Cougars on the board. A Mileisha Rodriguez basket and another Amy Jackson jumper kept the Cougars within striking distance at the end of the first quarter, but it would still be Siena Heights leading 17-7.
The second quarter would see the Saints extend their lead, as they once again held the Cougars scoreless for an extended period to start the quarter. An Amy Jackson made three would end the drought, and Rylee Thomas would score the Cougars' only other points in the quarter, as SHU held a 32-16 lead at the break.
The second half would not produce the comeback run that the Cougars would need to get back into the game, as the the closest the Cougars would get would be a 39-25 score midway through the third quarter. Siena Heights would regain their lead, and then extend it, as the Saints went on to win by a 66-39 score.
Amy Jackson was the lone Cougar in double-figures, as she scored 14 points, with 4 made three pointers. Riley Merryfield would add 8 points, and Rylee Thomas would chip in 6 for the Cougars.
Cleary falls to 4-18 overall, 4-12 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back on the road next Wednesday, February 7, when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on the Aquinas College Saints. The game will get underway at 5:30 PM.
