Cleary Roars Back to Win vs. UM-Dearborn
(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team won their second game in a row after overcoming an early deficit against the visiting UM-Dearborn Wolverines Saturday evening at Gannon Gymnasium in Lansing.
The Wolverines would start the game on a 14-0 run, but Mileisha Rodriguez would get the Cougars on the board with just over three minutes to play. Rodriguez would make a pair of free throws and added another layup, and the Cougars were back within striking distance. The Wolverines would hold onto a 14-10 lead after the first quarter, but the Cougars would take the lead early in the second when Rylee Thomas hit a three. The teams would trade baskets, but Cleary would finish the half strong and led 29-25 at the break.
Cleary would pick up right where they left off to start the second half, and were up double-digits by the halfway mark of the third quarter. UM-Dearborn would cut the lead to seven points, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way, as Cleary held a twelve point lead after three quarters, and built a twenty point lead in the fourth to leave no doubt.
Taedom Stein led Cleary with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Amy Jackson had 18 points and 3 steals. Mileisha Rodriguez had her 9th double-double of the season, and the second most rebounds in a game this season with her 12 points and 18 rebounds.
Cleary improves to 6-20 overall, 6-14 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back at Gannon Gym on Wednesday when they take on Madonna at 5:30 PM.
