Lourdes Hands Women's Basketball a Loss on Final Game of the Season
(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team saw their season come to an end after they fell to the visiting Lourdes University Gray Wolves Saturday afternoon in Lansing.
Mileisha Rodriguez would tie the game with a layup in the early goings, and Riley Merryfield hit a three to give the Cougars an early 5-4 lead. The Gray Wolves would finish the quarter on a 19-4 run, and led by fifteen points through the first ten minutes. The offensive struggles would continue for the Cougars as they were held to seven points in the second quarter, and they trailed Lourdes 34-16 at the break.
Lourdes would build their lead further in the third quarter, and held a 30 point lead with 4:06 left to play in the third quarter. Cleary would start to get the offense going from then on, and finished the quarter strong, to cut the Gray Wolves' lead to twenty-five points with ten minutes still to play. Cleary's run would continue into the fourth quarter, as they cut the deficit to eleven points when they trailed 55-44, but the deficit would be too much to overcome for the Cougars, who fell 65-52.
Mileisha Rodriguez led the Cougars with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her tenth double-double of the season. Taedom Stein had 11 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Rylee Thomas would add 8 points for the Cougars.
