Women's Basketball Suffers Senior Day Defeat to Cornerstone
(Lansing, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's basketball team honored and recognized the six seniors of this year's team, but were unable to earn the win on Senior Day, as they lost to the visiting Cornerstone Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon in Lansing.
Cornerstone would start the game on a 12-1 run through the first seven minutes of game action before Amy Jackson hit a jumper and converted the and-one free throw to make the score 12-4. A pair of Mileisha Rodriguez free throws cut the deficit in half, and another free throw by Samantha Hoelscher gave the Cougars seven points, but they would trail by eleven after the opening quarter.
The offensive struggles continued in the second quarter, as the Golden Eagles built a twenty point lead with five minutes remaining in the half. A Taedom Stein layup and a Mileisha Rodriguez jumper gave the Cougars some life, as the Cougars were able to get the deficit back within twenty by halftime.
Cornerstone would come out in the second half on fire, and re-established their lead, pulling away from Cleary and taking the game by a final score of 89-41.
Mileisha Rodriguez was the lone Cougar to score in double-digits, with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while also having 3 blocks. Taedom Stein had 9 points and 4 rebounds.
Cleary drops to 9-16, 8-10 in the WHAC. The Cougars will play their final regular season home game on Tuesday, February 18, when they host the Siena Heights Saints at Gannon Gym. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM.
