Cougars Bested by Saints in WHAC Play

(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars women's lacrosse team scored their second their most goals in the past four games, but were unable to earn the victory as the visiting Aquinas College Saints won 18-7 Wednesday evening.

After the initial draw control fell Cleary's way, Ashlie Wood took some contact and slotted the ball past the Aquinas goalie to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.  Aquinas would answer, scoring the next two goals of the game, before Cleary would tie the game again when Mallory Tognetti scored from a free position attempt.  Aquinas would score six consecutive goals to take an 8-2 lead into the second quarter.  Mallory Tognetti scored her second goal of the game, once again via a free position attempt to make the game 8-3.  After another Saints goal, Natalie Busen scored an unassisted goal to make the score 9-4.
Two quick Aquinas goals right before the half gave the visitors an 11-4 lead after 30 minutes.  Cleary would be held scoreless in the third quarter, but the first goal of the fourth quarter would come from Ashlie Wood (assisted by Anna Clark) to make the score 15-5.  Wood would score her third goal from a free position attempt with just under four minutes left in the game, and Macie Magda would score the game's final goal with just 14 seconds remaining to make the final score 18-7.

Kenneday Stilson made 13 saves in goal for the Cougars while taking the loss.  Ashlie Wood scored 3 goals to go with Mallory Tognetti's 2 for Cleary.  The Cougars will be back at Lake Trust Stadium this Friday evening as they host the Siena Heights Saints in WHAC play.  The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.
