Cougars Fall to Siena Heights in WHAC Play

(Howell, MI)-- It was a cold evening at Lake Trust Stadium, and the visiting Siena Heights Saints made sure the Cleary Cougars women's lacrosse team couldn't warm up, as the Saints defeated Cleary 21-5 Friday evening.

The two teams traded goals to open up play, as both teams worked their way into the action, with Cleary's goal coming from Natalie Busen as a free position attempt.  Siena Heights scored nine straight goals after that to take a commanding 10-1 lead.  Cleary's Georgia Price would get the Cougars on the board late in the opening quarter, after she slotted a goal home, with an assist from Ashlie Wood, to make the score 10-2.  Siena Heights would add one more before the end of the quarter, and held the Cougars scoreless in the second quarter, to take a 16-2 lead into the halftime break.

After four straight Saints goals in the third quarter, Mallory Tognetti scored her first goal from a free position attempt, to make the score 20-3.  Tognetti would score again to open the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 20-4.  Siena Heights would capitalize on a Cougar yellow card and score their final goal of the game, and Alana Harrison scored with just over four minutes as a free position attempt left to score the game's final goal.

Kennedy Stilson made 14 saves through three quarters of play and suffered the loss, while Anna Clark made 3 saves in her 15 minutes as goalie.  Mallory Tognetti led the Cougars with 2 goals, while Georgia Price had 4 ground balls, and Ashlie Wood added 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.

Cleary will be back in action on Monday, April 4, when they host the Albion College Britons in non-conference action.  The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM at Lake Trust Stadium.
