(Southfield, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars women's soccer team went on the road for a critical WHAC matchup to take on the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils Saturday evening.
Felicia Moseley got the Cougars on the scoreboard just 10 minutes into the game. Some Cleary pressure forced the Blue Devils to pass the ball back to their goalkeeper. Moseley continued her pursuit, and stole the ball off the goalie's foot, and slotted it into the net to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Lawrence Tech would equalize off a corner that pinged around in front of the face of goal before ultimately going past Tara McGrath to tie the game at 1-1. The score would remain tied 1-1 into halftime.
The second half was a wide open affair, with both teams driving up the field looking to find the go-ahead goal. Lawrence Tech's defense would do well to prevent anything in the final third, and the hosts would get the game's big break through in the 77th minute. After Cleary committed a foul about 35 yards out, the Blue Devils would score on the ensuing free kick on a rocket into the top right corner of the net to take the lead. Cleary pushed forward to try and equalize, but were unable to get the chance they needed. Lawrence Tech would add an insurance goal in the 88th minute to secure the 3-1 victory.
Tara McGrath suffered the loss in goal, as she made 9 saves on 12 shots on goal. Felicia Moseley's goal was her 5th on the season, which leads the team.
Lawrence Tech outshot Cleary 29-5, and held the advantage on corner kicks 5-2.
Cleary drops to 3-8, 1-6 in the WHAC. The Cougars will next be in action on Wednesday, October 19, when they travel to Ft. Wayne to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors.
