(Goshen, IN)-- The Cleary Cougars women's soccer team made the trek o Michiana, but were unable to return with a season opening victory, as the host Goshen Maple Leafs won 4-0.
Goshen would get on the scoreboard in the 6th minute, and held that lead through the rest of the first half. The Cougars would push forward to try and equalize in the second half, but the Maple Leafs would be the team to score next, as they expanded their lead in the 55th minute. The hosts would score two more goals to ice the game, and held on to win by a final score of 4-0.
Tara McGrath played the opening 45 minutes in goal, but suffered the loss, as she allowed 1 goal on 4 shots. Juliana Caro came into the game in relief at halftime, and allowed 3 goals on 8 shots. Cleary finished the game with 7 shots on goal, and held the advantage on corner kicks (3-1).
Cleary is now 0-1 on the season. The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday, August 22nd, when they travel to Huntington University to take on the Foresters. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
