(Arlington Heights, IL)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team had to deal with the heat and humidity of greater Chicago, and weren't able to cool down the host Roosevelt Lakers, as they fell 2-0 Monday morning.
Roosevelt would open the game's scoring halfway through the opening half, when the ball pinged around in front of goal on a corner kick before ultimately gettinb past Cleary goalie Tara McGrath. McGrath was able to get a hand on the shot, but was unable to stop it from getting past her. McGrath was stellar for the rest of the first half, making 10 saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the deficit at 1-0.
Roosevelt would score the dagger late in the game, on a shot that floated into the upper half of the net, and taking a 2-0 lead, and eventually the game.
Tara McGrath was excellent in goal, making 12 saves on 13 shots in almost 70 minutes of game action. Juliana Caro made 1 save on 2 shots. Cleary was outshot 23-4 in the game (15-2 shots on goal). The Lakers also held an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks.
